Don't worry about the size of the tractor seen in the two photos above.
Both machines work perfectly well behind any standard tractor, so long as it has 70 or more horsepower and a standard hydraulic connection, but the hydraulic returns have to be pressurised.
All of these machines come with power take-off and spare parts, giving you years of use.

In this video you can see the inner workings of a haulm topper.
The greatest advantage of topping onions with this machinery is that they cut the stem whilst the bulb remains firmly planted in the ground. The onion itself is never touched, and so remains unharmed throughout the topping process.

The height sensors which automatically adjust the height of the machine.
The two yellow rods at the front of the topper constantly track the height of the onions. These rods are connected to the machine's hydraulic height adjustment system. If the level of the onions drops, then so does the topper. If it rises, then so does the topper. This guarantees that every stem is cut at the same height.
In this video, you can see how the topper's automatic height adjuster works.
Watch what happens when the man moves the rods with his foot.
With this system, the tractor driver can calmly go about his work, concentrating on where he is going, without any worries about the height of the haulm topper.
but can also go in front of one if it has a power take-off and hydraulic connection at the front.
The advantage of fitting it to the front is that you can then place the harvester behind.
Doing this enables you to top and harvest the onions at the same time.
If the tractor only pulls the haulm topper or harvester behind, it must have a minimum of 70 horsepower, as well as a hydraulic connection if the haulm topper has an automatic height system.
On this page, we reveal the internal workings of this machinery, with a demonstration in which the orange hood is removed.
We also look at the system that automatically keeps the topper at the same height above the onions, ensuring that all of the stems are cut to the same length.
