The handling and processing of crops.
Adding value to the crop after the harvest.
We will make a distinction between handling of the crop and processing of the crop.
Handling are those manipulations where all effort possible are made not to damage or deform the produce, like for instance: to grade, clean, pack or fill BIG BAGS or whatever manipulation that results in a intact cleaner, graded, weighed or packed product.
Processing are those manipulations where the product changes it physicals aspects like peeling of potatoes or onions, pre-cutting potatoes to make French Fries or convert potatoes into flakes.
Both, handling or processing, are actions to add value to the product and in many circumstances the farmer should seriously consider doing these things himself, so he himself can enjoy the benefits (profits) of those added values instead of giving these possible added values away to the intermediaries, speculators or supermarket chains.
